Korea, before and after

I lived in Korea until my mid-twenties. Back then, it was simply home, and I rarely stopped to think about why people lived, ate, shopped, or spent their time in a particular way. Familiar things tend to remain in the background.

I then spent around ten years working for an airline and travelling to different parts of the world. When I eventually returned, Korea was still familiar, but I was seeing it with more distance and asking questions about things I had once accepted without thinking. That combination still shapes how I see the country today.

What working in travel lets me see

After returning, I began working as a travel planner, initially on programmes for cruise travellers. My role was behind the scenes: planning journeys, checking what could actually work, speaking with the people involved, and trying to understand what each traveller wanted from Korea.

Today, I work on everything from carefully budgeted tailor-made tours to ultra-luxury journeys. The scale may change, but the question remains the same: what works for this particular person?

My job involves planning, operating, listening, and asking questions. It also shows me the difference between what looks attractive in a proposal and what works in reality. A famous place may deserve its reputation, while something ordinary on a list may be exactly right for someone.

I want to write about both. Expensive or affordable, polished or simple, well known or rarely mentioned, what matters is having an honest reason to recommend it.

This is not only about travel

Travel is part of my work, but it is not the limit of this site. When I think about Korea, I also think about how people live, what they worry about, how they have fun, what they eat, and what suddenly becomes popular.

What I hope you find here

I want this site to feel like a conversation with a friend, not a guide telling everyone to follow the same route. Sometimes I will write about where to stay or a place worth knowing. At other times, it may be a product, a trend, a drama, a question about Korean life, or a playlist.

I am not trying to explain all of Korea or provide one definitive answer. I only want to share the parts I know, the things I keep noticing, and what I can speak about honestly.

If someone discovers one place in Korea that might otherwise have been overlooked, I will be glad. If someone listens to one of my playlists and finds a song they keep coming back to, that is enough too.

You may not see the face behind this site, but I hope you come to know the person through what she notices, asks, likes, and chooses to share.
